Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Aquinas men's cross country team was competing at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids this weekend when they hosted the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. The number No.19 Saints faced off against 19 ranked or receiving votes teams and took 11th overall out of 28 teams in the maroon race.

The winner of the men's maroon race was No.5 Indiana Wesleyan with a score of 88 points compared to Aquinas' 327. No.17 St. Francis had a huge race placing second with 108 points. Behind them was Saint Mary (165), Huntington (173), and Grace (187) rounding out the top five.

Leading the charge for the Saints was
Connor Clemens. The senior averaged 3:12 per kilometer over the 8 kilometer race (4.97 miles) to earn a time of 25:36 and placing him 44th overall. Next across the line was senior
Caleb Hodgkinson who finished with a time 25:54. This time placed him 57
th in the race. Shortly behind him was the duo of
Connor Callahan and
Matthew Schieber who finished with times of 25:58 and 26:00. They placed 69th and 72nd overall.
Ethan Barker was the final Saint to score when he finished in the 100th position. The sophomore averaged a pace of 3:18 per kilometer to finish with a time of 26:27.

Rounding out the top seven for the Saints was
Juan David Hernandez and
Andrew Ireland who finished with times 26:42 and 27:14. These times placed them 132nd and 175th overall.

Ben Hylen,
Brian Langlois, and
Carson Lafferty were the first members of the team across the line in the white race. The trio came in together finishing with times of 27:07, 27:09, and 27:09 to place 29th, 30th and 31st. The Saints placed third overall in the white race with 177 points.Â

The next cross country poll will be released on Thursday, October 27 and today's races will largely factor into the coaches ratings. The men will next compete on on Friday, November 4 at the WHAC Championships. The conference meet will take place in Sylvania, Ohio with the time still to be announced.
