The Aquinas women's outdoor track & field team competed on Thursday (Apr. 14) at the Calvin Spring Thing Invitational in Grand Rapids. Competing against a number of NCAA Division III programs, the Saints were able to put together some solid performances and continue to build to the post season.
AQ occupied the top two spots in the high jump with
Casey Lenon and
Crystal Goyette finishing with jumps of 1.67 and 1.64 meters. With these marks, Lenon hits and A standard and Goyette hits a B. Diamond was also in the event and placed sixth respectfully.
In her return to action,
Victoria Faber was able to pick up where she left off. Her jump of 3.70 meters placed her fourth overall and gave her an automatic qualifier.
Then in the Steeplechase,
Emily McManus placed second in the race with a time of 11:44 out of six competitors.
The Saints loaded up the 100 Hurdles and took home the top three spots.
Tarshana Kimbrough was the first across the line with a time of 16.05. Behind her was
Theresa Judd and
Shanna Han with times of 16.54 and 17.15 respectively. Then in the regular 100
Casey Lenon and Kimbrough took second and third in a tight race only separated by .02.
Racing in the 400,
Ronnie McMillan placed third with a time of 1:02.
In the triple jump,
Presley Avery tied her collegiate best in the triple jump with a best jump of 9.14 meters. Then in the long jump
Kaylee Diamond placed second with a best jump of 5.23 meters.
Rebecca Beltran placed tenth in the discus throw with a heave of 32.37 meters and fourth in the shot put with a toss of 10.98 meters. Continuing with the throws,
Shekira Edgar competed in the Javelin with a throw of 24.40 meters and 40.59 in Hammer.
Hope McGarry-Costello was also in the hammer and finished in the top half with a throw of 33.62 meters.
AQ will next compete at the Al Owens Classic after the Easter holiday. The meet will be held by Grand Valley in Allendale, Michigan.
