The women's track and field team began their outdoor season this weekend when they competed at the Spartan Invitational in Lansing, Michigan. The Saints had three athletes hit standards this weekend upon national approval.
Beginning on Friday,
Laikyn Kulman started the Saints off in the pole vault and recorded a vault of 3.57 meters to hit a B standard. Then,
Kaylee Diamond placed second in the High Jump with a jump of 1.65 meters. Both jumpers will wait to see if their standards are honored given that they both competed indoors
Then on Saturday,
Hannah Adler won the 5K with a time of 17:35. This time earns her an automatic qualifier and ranks her third all-time in Aquinas History. Also, in the event
Megan Gough finished fifth with a time of 18:32.
Coming off of a national championship,
Maggie Whitney was competing in the 800. She finished second with a time of 2:16.
In the Hammer Throw,
Shekira Edgar had a throw of 35.44 meters. In the Javelin, she had a throw of 23.68.
Hope McGarry-Costello also threw in the javelin and finished with a throw of 22.19m.
Shanna Han competed in the long jump and finished with a jump of 4.97 meters.
The women will be back in action next Friday and Saturday for the Jim Vargo Invitational. The meet will take place in Louisville, Kentucky.
