Women's Track and Field Hitting Their Stride at Davenport Invitational

This weekend the women's track and field team was local as they competed at the Davenport Invitational. The women competed well and had their final meet before they do battle against WHAC Competitors next weekend.

Beginning in the 100 Hurdles, AQ occupied the top two spots with Tarshana Kimbrough finishing first (15.34) and Theresa Judd coming in right behind her (15.86). Then in the 100 Dash, Mia Stankiewicz and Kimbrough took sixth and seventh respectively. Kimbrough's last event of the meet was the 4x400 with Casey Lenon, Ronnie McMillan, and Maggie Whitney. The quartet took first by 18 seconds.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, Maggie Whitney finished with a time of 2:20. This time put her sixth overall behind many NCAA DIII and DII competitors.

In the 1500, Emily McManus represented the Saints with an eighth place finish with a time of 5:01.

Looking at the throwing events, Rebecca Beltran placed sixteenth with a best throw of 34.11 meters. Also in the event was Hope McGarrry-Costello and Meghan Douglass with throws of 29.38 and 24.11 meters respectfully. Then in javelin, Shekira Edgar was the only Saint in the event and finished with a best toss of 42.37 meters.

Remarkably in the high jump there were four athletes that finished with heights of 1.62 meters, three being from Aquinas and one from Cornerstone. That AQ trio consisted of Crystal Goyette, Kaylee Diamond, and Casey Lenon. This event will be a highlight of next week's WHAC Competition.

Another interesting WHAC event will be the pole vault. A Cornerstone competitor and Victoria Faber finished at heights of 3.81. Right behind them was Laikyn Kulman with a vault of 3.66. Shaily Baynes was also in the event finishing fifth with a vault of 3.21 meters.

Finally in the jumps Shanna Han finished second with a mark of 5.38 meters and Presley Avery finished fifth with jump of 9.41 meters in the triple jump.

The Conference Championship will be hosted in Ann Arbor, Michigan next weekend. The times for the Thursday-Friday are still to be announced.
