The women's track and field team traveled down to Louisville, Kentucky for the Jim Vargo Invitational this weekend. On the frigid Bellarmine Universities track, the women's 10K record was broken by 43 seconds and the Saints return home with four qualifiers this weekend.
Â
The biggest highlight this weekend came during the 10,000 meter race. The Saints had three competitors in the race with
Hannah Adler,
Megan Gough, and
Hanna Grant competing. Adler won the race for the Saints with a time of 36:11. More importantly this qualifies her for nationals with an automatic standard and sets a new Aquinas school record by 43 seconds. Adler moves past alumni Kathy Middaugh to now hold the record.
Megan Gough was next in for Aquinas placing third with a time of 38:10 to earn a provisional qualifier. Then,
Hanna Grant finished sixth with a time of 39:10 to earn a new PR by 26 seconds.
Â
Maggie Whitney had a busy weekend as she competed in the 800 and 1500. Beginning on Friday, she won the 800 with a time of 2:14.87. This time gives her a provisional qualifier and she is .47 away from an automatic qualifier. On Saturday she continued to win, as she secured the victory in the 1500. Her time of 4:42 also earned her a provisional qualifier.
Â
In the Steeplechase,
Emily McManus earned a five second PR with a time of 11:58 to second overall.
Â
Shekira Edgar competed in both the javelin and hammer throw on Friday afternoon. In the javelin she finished sixth with a time of 23.62. Then in hammer, she finished 13th with her second throw of 36.94.

The sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers will head down to Indiana Tech on Monday, April 11, in hopes of warmer temperatures and better quality performances.
