Men's Track and Field Finishes Second in Competitive WHAC Championships

The men's track and field team wrapped up day two of the WHAC Conference Championships today in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Saints had one WHAC Champion on the day and will now head into a stretch of last chance meets.
 
The men finished second on the day with 180 points. They were a total of only 10.5 points behind the conference champions, #3 Indiana Tech who had 190.5 points. Madonna (147), Siena Heights (138.5), and Cornerstone (93.5) round out the top five.
 
The Saints lone champion came in the 3,000 Steeplechase from Ben Hardy. His time of 9:33 won him the conference championship. This is his first conference title. Right behind Hardy, Connor Callahan placed second with a time of 9:55 to score eight points. Also scoring for AQ was Ken Wojcik (4th), Mike Ciaravino (7th), and Jonah Maichele (8th) for 26 total points.
 
Lawrence Young was the only Saint to qualify in today's 100 meter dash final in yesterday's preliminaries. In today's event, Young placed seventh with a time of 10.78 to earn seventh place. This time moves him up to fifth all-time in Aquinas history. Young also placed fourth in the 200 later in the day.
 
In the triple jump, the duo of Jesunifemi Ojutalayo and Isaiah Jackson both entered AQ's all-time top five list. Ojutalayo finished third with a jump of 14.34 meters and second all time, while Jackson finished sixth with a jump of 13.76 and fifth all time.
 
In the 4x100, the quartet of Yussuf Abdullahi, Cyrus Prudhomme, Lawrence Young and Brian Stump placed third in the tight race to earn six points.
 
Moving into the 1500, the trio of Clayton Jones, Ben Hylen and Connor Clemens earned a total of 17 points. Jones was edged out in the race to place second. Hylen came in behind him at 4:03 for third then Clemens placed sixth to earn three more points. Jones, Matt Schieber and Callahan then later competed in the 5K and finished with ten total points.
 
In the 110 Hurdles Isaiah Jackson placed third in the event with a time of 14.82.
 
Jacob Tenbusch and Josh Young then scored for AQ in the 400 meters. The duo earned a combined total of eight points. Then in the 400 Hurdles, Adam Bailey was the only Saint in the race finishing fourth overall.
 
In the 4x400, Aquinas narrowly missed out on first place with a time of 3:19. The team of Jacob Tenbusch, Adam Bailey, Cyrus Prudhomme, and Caleb Hodgkinson earned AQ eight more points.
 
Finishing with another duo , Caleb Hodgkinson and Will Finch worked together in the 800 to place fourth and sixth with times of 1:58 and 1:59 to add eight more points.
 
This season the All-Academic Team included Matthew Brines, Connor Callahan, Mike Ciaravino, Ezra Faust, Caleb Hodgkinson, Ben Hylen, Andrew Ireland, Isaiah Jackson, Ben Peterson, Bryce Platte, Collin Pollatz, Cyrus Prudhomme, Brian Stump, John Van Til, and Josh Young. Isaiah Jackson was named the Champions of Character Honoree for the Aquinas men.
 
The men will have their first of two last-chance meets next week Tuesday at the GVSU Tuesday Last Chance Meet. The event will take place at 12:00 PM in Allendale, Michigan.
