Fort Wayne, Indiana - The men's track & field team opened competition at the WHAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Warrior Park this afternoon. The meet, hosted by Indiana Tech, brought together the nine WHAC track and field programs. The Saints battled the competition and tallied 28 points on the day. Aquinas sits in third place after the first day of competition.
The men's 4x800 meter relay had a strong performance on day one for the Saints. The quartet of
Alex Dumont,
Adrian Romero,
Connor Candler, and
Jake Rottier placed fourth overall in 8:01.96. The Saints also placed a pair of athletes in the 10,000 meters.
Juan David Hernandez placed second (31:47.32) and
Austin Williford placed fifth (32:17.55) to collect twelve points for Aquinas.
Casey Mathieu led the Saints in the field events as he placed third (156-0) in the javelin.
Ryan McGuire added four points as he placed fifth (164-0) in the hammer throw, while
Chris Jackson placed eighth in the long jump (21-9).
Aquinas will return to action on Friday at Noon with the second and final day of the outdoor championships.
