Women's Track and Field Takes Second at WHAC Conference Championships

The women's track and field team finished up day two of the WHAC Conference Championships today in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Saints had two WHAC Champions on the second day of competition.
 
The women finished second on the day with 132.16 points. Winning the conference meet was #2 Indiana Tech with 286 points. In third was Cornerstone with 116 points followed by Sienna Heights with 86.14 points and Madonna with 80 to round out the top five.
 
The Saints first champion came in the steeplechase. Emily McManus bested the rest of field by almost 40 seconds with a time of 11:53.
 
Then in the 400 Hurdles Tarshana Kimbrough won the 400 Hurdles. Her time of 1:03 automatically qualified her for nationals. Later, she and Theresa Judd placed fifth and sixth with times of 14.83 and 15.42 to earn the Saints seven points.
 
In the final event of the day, the women's 4x400 placed second overall. The team of Kimbrough, Casey Lenon, Ronnie McMillan, and Maggie Whitney ran a time of 3:56 and earned them a provisional qualifier.
 
Continuing with relays, the 4x100 team of Kimbrough, Lenon, Mia Stankiewicz, and Shanna Han placed fourth with a time of 49.2.
 
Casey Lenon continued to have an impressive weekend in the 100 meter dash finals. She placed eighth with a time of 12.60.
 
Later in the 800 meter run, Maggie Whitney placed second with a time of 2:17. This place earned her eight points.
 
In the longest event of the day, Megan Gough and Hanna Grant finished with times of 19:03 and 19:27 in the 5K. These times earned them a third and fifth place finish.
 
Finally in shot put, Rebecca Beltran threw a distance of 10.97 meters to earn one point for AQ taking eighth.
 
This season the All-Academic Team included Rebecca Beltran, Aubrey Doucette, Meghan Douglass, Shekira Edgar, Victoria Faber, Megan Gough, Hanna Grant, Hannah Hamilton, Caroline Jones, Casey Lenon, Hope McGarry-Costello, Emily McManus, Kennedy Pollington, and Grace Sweet. Casey Lenon was named the Champions of Character Honoree for the Aquinas women.
 
The women will have their first of two last-chance meets next week Tuesday at the GVSU Tuesday Last Chance Meet. The event will take place at 12:00 PM in Allendale, Michigan.
