Grand Rapids, Mich. — Three assists, two wins and one shutout was the formula needed for Aquinas men's soccer junior
Joshua Clemitson to earn WHAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Monday (Oct. 9).Â
AQ (8-2-1, 4-1 WHAC) scored five goals in the first half to cruise to a 6-1 road win at Rochester on Wednesday (Oct. 4) before claiming a 3-0 home victory on Saturday (Oct. 7) against the University of Northwestern Ohio.
Clemitson assisted AQ's first and third goals against Rochester, scored by
Jai Tahlan and
Fin Pittock. Against UNOH, he added another assist on
Yussef Hakmaoui's goal in the 73rd minute.
Defensively, Clemitson was part of a back line that held both the Warriors and Racers to three shots on target each. The clean sheet against UNOH was AQ's seventh shutout this season.
Clemitson is second on the team with six assists this season. He only had four assists in his previous two seasons combined with the Saints. Â
This is Clemitson's second WHAC Defensive Player of the Week honor in his career. He also won the award earlier this season on Sept. 11. AQ has had six Player of the Week winners so far this year.
Next up, a rivalry shutdown against Cornerstone. The Saints host the Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. Wednesday night (Oct. 11) from the AQ Athletic Field.Â
