Box Score Orlando, Fla. — The Aquinas men's tennis team knocked off Connecticut on Tuesday morning (Mar. 14) to string together back-to-back wins on their 2023 Spring Break Trip in Orlando, Fla.
The Saints (3-4 overall) bested the NCAA Division III program by a score of 5-2 at the Red Bug Lake Park. With the defeat, the Camels dropped to 1-4 overall on the season.
Aquinas won the lone doubles' point on offer by winning the No. 1 and No. 2 pairings.
Tom Gangov and
Josep Coll Llopis picked up an 8-4 win, while
Nicholas Klak and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe narrowly escaped with a 8-7 victory over Gavin Anderson and Krishh Tipnis.
AQ also nearly won No. 3 doubles with
Jackson VanBergen and
Mariano Arroyo coming just short in a 8-6 loss to James Serhant III and Walker Mulligan.
The Saints won four out of the six single matchups to seal the match victory.
Gangov battled with Aaron Fleishman in a draining No. 1 bout that finished 7-5, 6-4 in AQ's favor. No. 2 Coll Llopis took care of Jules Taylor-Kerman (6-2, 6-1). No. 3
Max Goldbeck-Lowe needed three sets to clinch a 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 victory. No. 5 Klak came from behind to defeat Mulligan (4-6, 6-4, 10-5).
Aquinas has two more Spring Break Trip matches in Florida this week, starting with a 1:30 p.m. contest against Millsaps on Wednesday (Mar. 15). The Saints close out the trip on Friday (Mar. 17) with a noon match against Scranton. AQ returns home to the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center on Mar. 24 in a WHAC affair against Lawrence Tech.
