Holland, Mich. – The Saints men's tennis team competed in an individual tournament this weekend (Sept. 13-14) at the Hope Invitational. Aquinas competed in singles competition on Friday (Sept. 13) and doubles on Saturday (Sept. 14).
On Friday,
Tom Gangov had the most success, taking his match to a tiebreaker game. However, his opponent managed to take the final game by a score of 8-6 to advance in the tournament. The tournament format was a best-of-one format, so the close contest resulted in an early exit for Gangov.
Michael Ha,
Dominic Maslanka,
Nicholas Lourido, and Joshua Chlebek all competed individually but saw early exits. Chlebek earned a round of 16 bye but fell in the quarterfinals.
On Saturday, the Saints had their first win of the weekend when the team of Lourido and Ha picked up a 6-4 doubles victory to advance to the quarterfinals. However, a tough top-seeded Ohio Northern team managed to get the best of Ha and Lourido in the next round with a 6-2 victory.
Chlebek and Dominic Marinelli won three games in their doubles match. Gangov and
Dorian Petengill picked up one game in their set.
