Hodgkinson, Hardy Hit Qualifiers at Flaminio Classic

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The men's track & field team returned to action tonight as the Saints played host to the 3rd Annual John Flaminio Classic. Aquinas welcomed Siena Heights, Cleary, Grace Christian and Southwestern Michigan College to the Alksnis Athletic and Recreation Building. Aquinas tallied four first place finishes on the night and received two national qualifying efforts in the 1,000 meters.

Caleb Hodgkinson would win the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:30.17. His time automatically qualifies him for the NAIA National Championships and he surpassed Chris Leikert to move into the #5 spot on the Saints All-Time List. Ben Hardy, who already has hit a "B" mark in the Mile, added another provisional qualifying effort today in the 1K. Hardy was just off Hodgkinson's pace as he crossed the line in 2:31.72. The duo is now ranked first and second in the WHAC and 4th and 8th nationally in the 1,000 meters. Also taking home a first place finish was Jaben Bakker, who won the 600 meters in a time of 1:28.06.

In the field events, Aquinas was led by Jacob Merryfield. He used a pair of personal bests to capture the double win in both the high jump and the triple jump. He cleared 6-2 1/4 and jumped 41-10 3/4.

Aquinas will now look ahead as they prep for the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by GVSU next Friday.
