Caledonia, Michigan - The men's track and field team returned to action this weekend at the DU Panther Classic. The two day meet was hosted by Davenport University at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. Despite some windy conditions, the Saints were able to tally two school records on the day.
For the third consecutive week
Nathan Iacona has broke the 400 meter school record. On Saturday he lowered the standard to 47.91 and the time automatically qualifies him for the NAIA National Championships. Nathan's time now has him seeded third in the WHAC and 17th nationally. Also rebreaking his own record was
Jake Van Tassell in the 400 meter hurdles. His time of 52.87 won the event and improved his automatic qualifying mark. Van Tassell is now ranked second in the WHAC and fifth on the NAIA Performance List.
In the field events the Saints were led by
Jesunifemi Ojutalayo and
Jacob Merryfield. Femi placed first in the triple jump (45' 2.25") and fourth in the long jump (22' 9"), while Merryfield placed fourth in triple jump (43' 5") and fourth in high jump (6' 1.5").
The Saints will look for continued success next weekend at GVSU's Al Owens Classic.
