Allendale, Michigan - The men's track & field team returned to action this weekend with a two-day meet at Grand Valley State University. Despite windy conditions, the Saints were able to compete at high level and score four first place event finishes at the annual Al Owens Classic.
The gold medal performances were turned in by
Brian Langlois,
Matthew Schieber,
Thomas Bearden, and the men's 4x400 meter relay. Langlois' time of 9:36.31 in the 3000 meter steeplechase was a new personal best by nine seconds. Schieber used a great last 300 meters to secure the win in the 5000 meters. His time of 15:10.79 bested the field of 30 competitors.
Thomas Bearden also a big day as he claimed the top spot in the unseeded division of the shot put. Bearden's toss of 45' 11" bested the field en route to an outdoor personal best. The men's 4x400 meter relay closed the meet in convincing fashion as the quarter of
Marcus Mitchell,
Jake Van Tassell,
Caleb Hodgkinson, and
Nathan Iacona cruised to victory in a time of 3:19.31.
Other notable performances for the Saints were turned in by
Jalen Radke,
Edward Frey and
Blake Whetstone. Radke recorded a personal best in the long jump as the freshman from Otsego went 23' 2". Frey would also supply highlights with a 3:59.17 performance in the 1500 meters. And Whetstone would set a personal best in the high jump with a leap of 6' 2.25".
Aquinas will return to Allendale next weekend for the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet.
