Marion, Indiana - The men's track and field team returned to action this afternoon at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. The Saints competed in three events on day two of the championships which are being hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University.
Highlighting the day for the Saints was the performance of
Nathan Iacona in the men's 400 meters. Iacona used a strong last 100 meters to place second in his heat in a new personal best time of 47.26. The effort breaks his own school record and qualifies him for Friday's final. Also competing for the Saints were the men's 4x400 meter relay and
Edward Frey in the 5000 meters. The foursome of
Marcus Mitchell,
Jake Van Tassell,
Caleb Hodgkinson, and Iacona placed 20th with a time of 3:17.13, while Frey placed 29th in a time of 15:11.34.
The Saints will now turn their attention to day three at the championships. Aquinas will compete in four finals starting with Maelie Hope in the discus at 1pm. Kaylee Diamond will also compete in the high jump, while Van Tassell and Iacona will both compete in their specialty events.
