Fort Wayne, Indiana - The men's track & field team concluded day two at the WHAC Championships with 111.5 points to finish third behind Indiana Tech and Madonna. The Saints tallied two conference titles and established one new school record on the day.
Ben Hardy raced to his third consecutive WHAC championship in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Hardy crossed the line in 9:20.57 to secure the win.
Brian Langlois would follow Hardy through the finish with a new personal best of 9:22.97. Langlois' time improved his provisional qualifying mark and moved him to 20th on the NAIA National Performance List. Hardy returned to the track later in the day to win the 5000 meters. The senior from East Jordan, Michigan would finish in 15:18.52 to lead five Saints to scoring places in the 5k.
Edward Frey would finish runner-up in a time of 15:26.02. The Saints would tally 25 points in the distance event.
The championships were also highlighted by
Nathan Iacona's performance in the 400 meters. Iacona rebroke the 400 meter school record for the fourth consecutive time. He would place second in the meet with a time of 47.65 and would move up to #14 on the national list.
The Saints also received high finishes by
Jake Van Tassell in the 400 meter hurdles. His time of 53.44 would place him 4th, while
Nate White placed 5th in the 100 meter dash (10.68).
Tyler Vandierdonck would set a personal best in the 1500 meters (3:59.72) to finish in fifth place, while the men's 4x4 raced to a third place finish in a time of 3:21.52. The quartet of
Marcus Mitchell,
Caleb Hodgkinson,
Jimmy Peabody, and Van Tassell would secure the third place team finish for the Saints.
Blake Whetstone would lead the Saints in the field events by placing 4th in the high jump with a height of 6' 3.5".
