Grand Rapids, Mich. – The AQ women's golf team just announced that it will be competing in five tournaments this upcoming fall 2024 season. The Saints will begin their season on September 9th with a trip down to South Bend to compete in the Pilot Invitational.
The 2024-25 season comes on the heels of a strong finish to the 2023-24 season with a fifth-place finish at the WHAC Championship at Stonehenge Golf Club. AQ will be returning nearly its entire team in 2024 along with a couple of key additions that were brought in this offseason. The Saints will be looking to make some noise in the conference and will have their first chance to do so at the WHAC Fall Preview from September 22nd through the 24th.
"I don't want to sound overly ambitious, but I think that there is enough legitimate talent with this group to contend for the conference title this year," stated head coach
John Konya. "We had continued improvement last season from a young group led by
Jayda Kerns,
Zoey Quinn, and
Maddie Schense. By year's end, all were on the threshold of shooting in the 70's. Now that they have a full year of experience, we are able to put those scores with
Emma Franklin, a senior, who has posted scores of 73 and 77 at the WHAC Championship.
Incoming freshman
Ava Clark should also make an immediate impact on our team totals, as she posted scores in the 70's in the State Finals last fall. Another incoming freshman,
Ellie Christian, along with talented sophomore
Marissa Langlois and junior
Mara Brydges –
who is returning from injury, are all expected to vie for playing time as well. We'll be pulling up to events this year with a little bit different expectations than we had last year. Our goal this season will be to post four scores in the 70's each day. If we can accomplish that, we'll be in a position to bring home hardware in most events. If we put in the work, the potential is there for a really good year!"
Aquinas' fall schedule will feature a bit of time on the road. The closest tournament will be the WHAC Fall Preview at Stonehenge in Augusta, Michigan. Other destinations will include South Bend, IN, Ottawa Lake, MI, Brighton, MI, and Notre Dame, IN when AQ plays at Notre Dame's own Warren Golf Course.
