Holland, Mich. – The Aquinas women's tennis team competed in an individual tournament this weekend (Sept. 13-14) at the Hope Invitational. Aquinas competed in singles competition on Friday (Sept. 13) and doubles on Saturday (Sept. 14).
Carlota Arzabe highlighted Friday with a round of 16 singles win.
Hannah Lourido and
Megan Hearn were the highlight on Saturday with a round of 16 doubles victory.
On Friday, Arzabe was the lone Saint to win in the first round with a strong 8-2 set victory over her opponent from Calvin. Arzabe ran into the top-seeded Hope opponent in the quarterfinals and managed to take four games, but ultimately fell 8-4.
Ruth Rabaut, Lourido, and Hearn also competed on Friday, but strong competition saw Lourido and Hearn take one game apiece.
Arzabe and Rabaut teamed up on Saturday and won four games in the opening round, but lost the set 6-4. Lourido and Hearn were AQ's only other team to compete in doubles and won their opening-round match 6-4. They advanced into the quarterfinals but fell to a strong Ohio Northern team.
