Allendale, Michigan - The men's track & field team traveled to Grand Valley State University on Saturday afternoon for the annual Bob Eubanks Open. Aquinas saw many outstanding performances, tallied numerous personal bests, and recorded two new entrants to the Saints Top Five List.
On the track, the Saints flexed their muscle in the 400, 600 and 800 meters.
Marcus Mitchell placed fourth out of 39 in the 400 meters. His time of 49.56 ties Justin Dupey for fourth on the Saints Top Five List. Also adding his name to the record books was
Nathan Iacona who placed second in the 600 meters. His time of 1:21.27 was the fifth fastest in school history.
Jake Van Tassell would also compete in the 600 meters and place fourth with a time of 1:21.79. The men's 800 meters featured
Jaben Bakker placing fourth out of 37 with an indoor personal best of 1:56.40. Mitchell, Van Tassell and Iacona would later team up with
Keiton Fase to win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:18.97
The field events were highlighted by the efforts of
Thomas Bearden and
Jacob Merryfield. Bearden (46'8.25") would place fourth in the shot put, while Merryfield (6'3.5") would place seventh and achieve a new personal best in the high jump.Â
Aquinas will return to action on Friday as the Saints host the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic at the Alksnis Athletic and Recreation Building. The meet will begin at 5 p.m.
