Grand Rapids, Michigan - The men's track & field team continued their indoor season with a pair of meets on Friday. A small portion of the team traveled to the Bill Clinger Classic at GVSU, while the rest of the squad competed at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic The Saints improved on one provisional qualifying mark and achieved two new top five all-time performances.
At GVSU, the foursome of Marcus Mitchell, Jake Van Tassell, Keiton Fase, and Nathan Iacona would run a 3:16.56 to solidify the #2 time on the All-Time List. The effort improved their "B" standard from earlier in the season and now they find themselves ranked 9th nationally in the event. Fase would also star in the 200 meters where he recorded a time of 22.11 to land himself at #4 on AQ's All-Time List.
Back at the Alksins Athletic & Recreation Building, the Saints played host to Cornerstone, Davenport, Hope, Grace Christian, and Muskegon Community College. Aquinas tallied five first place finishes and a trio of runner up efforts. Juan David Hernandez led the Saints with a pair of wins in the Mile and the 800 meters. JD would win the Mile in 4:34.27 and then later would come back and pick up the victory in the 800 with a time of 2:05.00. The Saints also received event wins from Liam Kelly (600 meters - 1:25.98) and Jaben Bakker (1000 meters - 2:33.55). Kelly and Bakker would also team up with Juan Garcia Valdes and Nolan Moffit to place second in the 4x400 meter relay. The quartet ran 3:30.64 in the meets final event.
Jacob Merryfield once again paced the Saints attack in the field events. Merryfield would win the high jump (6-1 ½) and place second in triple jump (43-41 ½ ), while Blake Whetstone would capture second place in high jump (5-11 ¼).
