Rockford, Mich. — After battling injuries and a few roster shortages that forced recent cancellations, the Aquinas women's rugby team was thrilled to finally get back on the pitch for their annual
Ruck Cancer fundraiser match — and they made the most of it. In cold, relentless rain that turned the field into a test of grit, the Saints delivered a statement performance that highlighted both their skill and spirit. The event raised approximately $1,800 for cancer awareness, showcasing the team's heart off the field and their determination on it.
Aquinas 55, Michigan (B-Team) 0 in a 10 on 10 game
Aquinas 20, Michigan (B-Team) 0 in a Motley 15's game
Aquinas dominated from start to finish as
Kayla Herrer stole the show with a hat trick of tries, while
Abby Wegener added multiple scores and key assists to keep the momentum rolling.
Lilly Stough impressed with her conversions in the slick conditions, and
Jayana Williams thrilled the crowd with her strong runs and creative playmaking. Defensively,
Taniya West and
Jeanette Aldana anchored the line with heavy tackles and hustle in the mud. Despite the rain leading to over 20 scrums, the Saints' forwards handled the challenge with remarkable strength and endurance. Aquinas improves to
2-3-1 on the fall season.

Coach's Comments
Head Coach
Dani Harris was proud of her team's effort and spirit in their return to competition:
"I couldn't be prouder of how our players responded after the setbacks we've faced this fall. They showed heart, teamwork, and resilience in conditions that were far from ideal. To raise money for a great cause, get everyone valuable playing time, and come away with two wins — that's a complete day for Saints rugby."
Misc Note:
During the
Ruck Cancer event, attendees also got to watch the
Rogue Girls Rugby team in action, where two future Saints —
Easton Wright and
Elle Fonnesbeck — officially announced their commitments to Aquinas College.
