Box Score University Park, Ill. — Coming off an exhilarating one-point win in the season opener, the Aquinas women's basketball team once again found itself in a nail-biter on Wednesday night at Governors State. The Saints started strong, using early baskets from Hannah Gillette and Rhema Dozier to build momentum before Isabel Reemsnyder caught fire in the second quarter. Aquinas led 33–29 at halftime after shooting nearly 50 percent from the field, but the Jaguars clawed back late to edge the Saints in the final seconds.
Governors State 58, Aquinas 57
Gillette and Paige Guernsey each poured in 14 points to lead the Aquinas attack, while Reemsnyder added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Dozier contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds, and Hope Kanouse led the team on the glass with 6 boards while dishing out five assists. Brynn Reams provided a spark off the bench with 5 points, including a key three-pointer in the third quarter that extended the AQ lead. The Saints finished the night shooting an efficient 47.9% from the floor and 41.7% from beyond the arc, while forcing nine steals and committing just ten fouls.
The final moments were filled with tension as Governors State hit a go-ahead layup with twelve seconds remaining to take a 58–57 lead. On the ensuing possession, Guernsey drove and rose for a mid-range jumper from the elbow that rimmed out with five seconds to go, GSU grabbed the board, and AQ's fantastic finish was foiled. The heartbreaking finish dropped the Saints to 1–1 on the season, while Governors State improved to 3–0.

Coach's Comments
Head Coach Brian Morris spoke about the narrow defeat and what lies ahead for his team:
"We did a lot of good things tonight — we controlled tempo, shared the basketball, and showed toughness on the road. These early-season games are about growth and chemistry, and I'm proud of how our group continues to compete. We'll learn from this and be ready to bounce back strong for our home opener on Saturday."
