Fort Wayne, Indiana - The men's track and field team began competition at the WHAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Indiana Tech. The men head into the second day of competition in fifth place out of ten teams with 27 points. Indiana Tech leads the meet with 100 points, while Cornerstone sits in second with 50 points.
Ethan Barker led four Saints to scoring spots in the men's 5000 meters. Barker would place second in a time of 15:13.00, while
Brian Langlois (15:28.33),
Austin Williford (15:29.87), and
Juan David Hernandez (15:35.90) would place sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively.
The Saints also picked up valuable points in the 4 x 800 Meter Relay. The quartet of
Jaben Bakker,
Liam Kelly,
Jack Phillips, and
Nolan Moffit ran their way to a fourth place finish in a time of 8:00.52.
Jake Van Tassell would win his preliminary heat of the 60 meter hurdles in 8.18 to advance to Saturday's final.
The field events were highlighted by the fourth place finish by
Blake Whetstone in the high jump. Whetstone cleared 6-4, while teammate
Casey Mathieu placed eighth (6-1 ¼). Wes Russell set a personal best in the shot put (45-8 ½) to place 7th out of 39 competitors
The Saints return to the Doug Edgar Indoor Track for the second and final day of the competition. The meet will resume at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon..
