Allendale, Michigan -Â The men's track & field team returned to action this weekend with a two-day meet at Grand Valley State University. Despite less than ideal conditions, the Saints were able to compete at a high level and hit three provisional qualifying efforts at the annual Al Owens Classic.
The Saints secured their first three national qualifying performances of the outdoor season.
Nathan Iacona would hit the "B" standard in the 400 meters with a time of 47.48.
Jake Van Tassell would also secure the provisional mark in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.94. Both individuals are now ranked 10th nationally in their respective events. The duo would then team up with
Marcus Mitchell and
Keiton Fase to win the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:15.73. The mark is also a "B" standard and now stands as the third fastest 4x4 in school history. Aquinas also received strong performances from
Ethan Barker (14:57.97) in the 5k and
Brian Langlois (9:29.43) in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Both currently hold the top spots on the WHAC's Outdoor Performance List.
The field events were highlighted by a pair of personal bests.
Casey Mathieu's toss of 147-5 in the javelin and
Joe Farage's height of 13-9.75 in the vault paced the Aquinas efforts in the field.
Aquinas will return to Allendale next weekend for the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet.
