Grand Rapids, Mich. - After some time away as a complete squad, the Aquinas women's cross country team was back to racing this weekend when they competed at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. The No.14 Saints placed tenth out of 25 teams.
Leading the way was the No.2 Trojans of Taylor University with 46 points. No.3 Saint Mary took second with 126 points. No. 7 Cornerstone (129), No. 4 St. Francis (161), and No. 17 Huntington (202) completed the top five. Aquinas finished with 327 points.
Leading the way for Aquinas was fifth-year senior,
Maggie Whitney. Running 3:37 per kilometer over the 5K race, Whitney finished with a time of 18:06 and placed 16th overall. She was followed closely by fellow fifth-year
Hannah Adler. Adler came in six seconds after Whitney with a time of 18:12 to finish 22nd. The Saints then saw a 1:25 gap between Adler and their next athlete,
Molly Harding. Harding ran a new personal best of 19:37, placing her 82nd.
Hanna Grant was in shortly after at 19:46 placing 91st.
Kaitlyn Thomas was the last Saint to score when she placed 122nd. She did so with a time of 20:10.
Mallory Bowker and
Claire Walton rounded out the top seven for the Saints. Bowker finished 142nd with a time of 20:25 while Walton finished 148th with a time of 20:34.
Zoe Antel led the way for the Saints in the white race. She placed 70th with a time of 21:03. AQ finished 19th out of 26 teams in the white race.
The women will next compete on Friday, November 4 at the WHAC Championships. The conference meet will take place in Sylvania, Ohio with the time still to be announced.
