Aquinas Track and Field Prepares to Host WHAC Indoor Championships

The Aquinas men's and women's track and field teams are geared up and ready to go for the upcoming two-day WHAC Indoor Championships. The meet will take place from the Saints home track located in the Alksnis Recreation & Athletic Building, beginning on Friday (Feb. 18) at 4:00 PM.

The women's team currently has 11 qualifying standards across eight events with eight women. Hannah Adler leads the way with three 'A' standard qualifications in the mile, 3000m, and distance medley relay, while also provisionally qualifying for the 1000m. Maggie Whitney has also hit an 'A' standard in the 800m and the DMR plus a provisional qualification in the 1000m. Whitney sits fourth in the 800m nationally. Joining Whitney and Adler in the DMR is Grace Sweet and Tarshana Kimbrough as their time from the GVSU Big Meet currently sits second nationally. Kimbrough has also hit a provisional qualifier in the 60m Hurdles.

Then on the field, the Saints have two women qualified in both the high jump and pole vault. First in the high jump, Crystal Goyette has automatically qualified, while Casey Lenon has a provisional standard and is one inch below hitting an automatic qualifier. Goyette is ranked third in the NAIA in the event. In pole vault, Laikyn Kulman is ranked sixth nationally in the event after hitting an 'A' standard and is joined Shaily Baynes who currently has a provisional qualifier. The WHAC leads all other conferences with qualifiers in the women's pole vault, with seven out of the twenty qualifiers hailing from the conference.

The WHAC currently has three ranked women's teams. Indiana Tech sits atop the national poll with 492.73 points. Aquinas then places ninth in the nation with 112.90 points, followed by Cornerstone who's ranked eleventh with 101.64 points.
