Allendale, Michigan - The women's track & field team used an absolutely beautiful spring day to score many personal bests and establish some national qualifying marks. The GVSU Early Meet provided an excellent opportunity for the Saints to perform at full strength for the first time this outdoor season.
The meet was highlighted by a trio of national qualifying efforts by the Saints in the field events.
Kaylee Diamond won the high jump competition with a jump of 5' 7'' to earn the automatic national qualifier. The jump currently has has the Lowell native ranked third in the country. Also punching her ticket to the championships was
Shaily Baynes, who set a personal best in the pole vault. Baynes cleared 12' 0.5" to earn the national "A" standard.
Maelie Hope also had a big day as she hit the provisional standard in the discus. She placed third in the event with a toss of 142' 9''. Hope also had a strong day in the shot put where she placed sixth with a mark of 41' 10". The effort was good enough to move her all the way up to #3 on the Saints All-Time List.
Kaydence Richardson placed fifth the hammer with a new personal best of 153' 4", while
Leah Rohrer recorded a seven foot PR (125' 4") in the discus to place sixth overall.
The Saints will look for continued success next weekend as the team will send split squads to Bucknell University and Davenport University.
