Grand Rapids, Michigan - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Tuesday (June 9) the USTFCCCA Final Program of the Year Standings after the completion of all three seasons of cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. The AQ women's program finished in fourth place among all NAIA institutions.
To be eligible for the USTFCCCA Program of the Year award, teams must qualify for the NAIA National Championships in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. Scoring is based on each team's finish at the respective competitions and the program with the fewest points takes home the Jack Hazen Program of the Year Award (men) and Fred Beile Program of the Year Award (women).
The Saints were one of only two WHAC programs among the 22 that qualified for all three championships. AQ placed best at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (7th, 8 points), while the Saints had respectable showings at both the cross country national meet (18th, 16 points) and the indoor track and field championships 17th (16 points), giving the team 42 points combined. The women finished with four All-Americans.
Madison Rempalski was named three times: cross country, indoor mile, and outdoor 1,500 meter run.
Maelie Hope was also named three times: indoor weight throw and outdoor discus and hammer.
Lindsey Strutz (multis) and
Alexis Furgason (high jump) both captured All American honors in both the indoor and outdoor championships.
Marian won the women's USTFCCCA Fred Beile Program of the Year Award with 12.5 points, while Indiana Wesleyan finished second (37.5 points) and the Cumberlands finished in third place (39 points). The only other WHAC team to qualify for the award was Cornerstone, who placed 15th with 92 points.
Mike Wojciakowski, head cross country and track & field coach for the Saints commented, "I am very proud of this group of women and what they accomplished this year. It is quite a testament to our student-athletes to not only excel in the classroom and during the regular season, but to be even better when it came to our national championships. Our coaching staff did a fantastic job of physically and mentally preparing the athletes for the championships and I am already looking forward to what this team can do in the future!"
