Fort Wayne, Indiana - The women's track & field team opened competition at the WHAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Warrior Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana this afternoon. The Saints battled the competition and the weather as the meet saw high temps and multiple lightning delays. The competition was eventually halted during the men's 10,000 meters and the javelin. The Saints won two conference titles, improved a provisional qualifying mark, and hit a new "A" standard.
Aquinas won the women's 4x800 meter relay in a time of 9:22.46. The foursome of
Ronnie McMillan,
Cadence Schultz,
Ella Koons, and
Lauren Wooer would outdistance the field by 22 seconds to secure the automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.
Kaydence Richardson also claimed a conference title in the women's hammer throw. Richardson's toss of 157' 2" bested the field of 25 competitors and was nearly six feet further than the second place finisher.
Robin Long would place 7th in the hammer with a career best throw of 140' 4".
Kaylee Diamond continued her spectacular junior season as she set a personal best in the long jump. Her jump of 18' 9.25" placed her third in the competition and improved her provisional qualifying mark and improved her #2 standing on the Saints All-Time List.
Shaily Baynes would place 5th in the pole vault with a height of 11' 11.75", while
Jordan Brown record a lifetime best of 10' 4" to place 8th.
Theresa Judd advanced to the finals in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.24, while
Madison Rempalski and
Anna Fedewa combined to score nine points in the women's 10,000 meters.
Aquinas will return to action on Friday at 10am with the second and final day of the outdoor championships.
