Saints Compete at Bill Clinger & GRHOF Classic

Grand Rapids, Michigan - The women's track & field team continued their indoor season with a pair of meets on Friday. A small portion of the team traveled to the Bill Clinger Classic at GVSU, while the rest of the squad competed at the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic The Saints would record four first place finishes and six runner up efforts on the evening.

 

The meet was highlighted by Maelie Hope winning both the shot put and the weight throw. Her toss of 43-9 ¾ in the shot put was a provisional qualifying mark and moved her up to #4 on the Saints All-Time List. She also bettered the field in the weight throw with a mark of 54-9 ¼ (also a provisional qualifying mark) and placed second in the 60 meter dash (8.05).  Staying in the field events, Aquinas' Alexis Furgason would win the high jump as she cleared 5-1 ¾. Shaily Baynes would place second in pole vault (11-3 ¾) and Presley Avery would secure a matching second place effort in the triple jump (32-3 ¾).


On the track, the Saints were led by Lauren Wooer's  first place finish in the 1000 meters (3:05.46). Aquinas would receive silver medal efforts from Leah Decker (200 meters - 27.23), Amber Koole (1000 meters - 3:11.02), and Sophia Schrauben (60 meter hurdles - 9.41).

The Saints will return to action on Friday when Aquinas College hosts the annual WHAC vs. MIAA Challenge.
