Fort Wayne, Indiana - The women's track and field team began competition at the WHAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Indiana Tech. The women head into the second day of competition in fourth place out of ten teams with 45 points. Siena Heights leads the meet with 63.5 points, while Indiana Tech sits in second with 60.5 points.
The Saints received a provisional qualifying time in the women's 4x800 meter relay. The quartet of
Amber Koole,
Cadence Schultz,
Lauren Wooer, and
Madison Rempalski would place second in a time of 9:34.53 to hit the "B" standard.
Maelie Hope raced to a new personal best of 7.75 in the 60 meter dash to advance to Saturday's final and to move her to #5 on the Saints All-Time List.
Hope would also star for the Saints in the field events as she would win both the weight throw and the shot put. Her mark of 58-0 in the weight throw is an automatic qualifier for the national championships. The personal best toss improves on her distance as #2 on the Saints All-Time List and moves her up to 6th place on the NAIA performance list. She also would win the shot put with a mark of 44-2 ¼.
Lindsey Strutz (39-8 ½) placed second in the shot put, while
Robin Long placed 5th in the weight throw with a distance of 47-9.
The Saints also scored points in the high jump as
Alexis Furgason (4-11 ¾) placed fifth, while Strutz placed eighth with a jump of 4-9 ¾.
The Saints return to the Doug Edgar Indoor Track for the second and final day of the competition. The meet will resume at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
