Grand Rapids, Michigan - The women's track and field team began competition at the WHAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Aquinas College. The women head into the second day of competition in third place out of nine teams with 47.5 points. Siena Heights and Cornerstone are tied for the team lead with 55.5 points.
The Saints would start the day with an impressive showing in the women's 4x800 meter relay. The quartet of
Lexi Hurst,
Ella Koons,
Amber Koole, and
Lauren Wooer would win the event and improve on their national qualifying mark. They recorded a time of 9:15.00, which currently ranks them second in the nation and moves them into third on the Saints All-Time List.
Madison Rempalski would also claim a conference title as she cruised to victory in the 5,000 meters. Madi's time of 17:37.10 is a provisional qualifier for nationals and moves her to #3 All Time at Aquinas College. The time currently ranks her eighth in the NAIA.
Maelie Hope returned to action and claimed the top spot in the weight throw. Her toss of 58-10 bested the 24 person field.
Maria Skrycki would also score in the weight by placing seventh with a distance of 44-9.5.
The Saints would also add to their point total in the high jump and the pole vault.
Alexis Furgason and
Lindsey Strutz placed second and fourth respectively. Both competitors cleared 5-3.25.
Ava Iverson cleared 10-8 in the vault to claim sixth place.
The Saints return to the Alksnis Athletic & Recreation Building for the second and final day of the competition. The meet will resume at 1:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
