Saints Surge Past Blue Devils in 19-7 Conference Win

Nine different Aquinas players score as the Saints improve to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in WHAC play

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Aquinas College men's lacrosse team continued its strong run with a 19–7 victory over the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils. Aquinas had nine different players score in the contest while improving to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Saints remained disciplined throughout the match, focusing on controlling possession, creating quality scoring opportunities, and involving multiple players in the offensive attack.

Ian Wright opened the scoring for the Saints, giving Aquinas an early 1-0 advantage. The Saints generated several quick opportunities before Collin Wildman buried a shot off an assist from Braeden Williams to extend the lead to 2-0. William Larriuz secured the faceoff to keep possession with AQ, and moments later Mitchell Pridgeon set up the next scoring opportunity, helping the Saints push ahead 3-0.

Lawrence Tech managed to sneak one past the Aquinas defense to trim the deficit to 3-1, but Cory Holmes responded with a goal of his own to keep the pressure on the Blue Devils. In net, Austin Hynote added two saves as the Saints continued to control the pace. Williams capitalized on a man-up opportunity off an assist from Wildman before adding another goal, this time from Eli Smith, to close the opening quarter with Aquinas ahead 6-1.

Wright struck again to begin the second quarter with an assist from TJ Murphy, and Wildman followed shortly after with another goal to extend the lead to 8-1. Pridgeon added a goal of his own as the Saints maintained their momentum. After Ben Cash scooped up a ground ball to regain possession, Wright finished another scoring chance, this time set up by Brandon Klingelsmith, to make it 10-1.

Hynote recorded another save, and a strong clear by the Saints led to Oliver Modderman's first goal of the game with Murphy earning the assist. Lawrence Tech added one more late in the quarter, but Williams and Wildman connected once again to send Aquinas into halftime with a commanding 12-2 lead.

Murphy opened the second half with a goal assisted by Pridgeon, and Dillon Wieschhorster followed with his first of the day to keep the Saints rolling. Klingelsmith and Wildman each added another goal as Aquinas pushed the lead to 16-2.

Cooper Croskey won the faceoff and scooped up the ground ball, leading to another Pridgeon goal. Pridgeon added another score while the Saints were playing two men down, though Lawrence Tech capitalized on the numbers advantage shortly after. The Blue Devils found a brief surge with a pair of goals before Murphy stopped the run, giving Aquinas a 19-5 lead heading into the final quarter.

Carter Braam stepped in between the pipes in the final frame and made several key saves while the defense stayed composed. Landen Stoll added a caused turnover for the Saints, and Raymond Meyer generated multiple shots down the stretch. Lawrence Tech added two late goals while holding Aquinas scoreless in the final quarter, bringing the game to its final score of 19-7.

Coaches Comments
"I was really proud of how the guys shared the ball today and stayed disciplined on both ends of the field," said head coach Peter Treppa. "When you see that many different players scoring, it shows the trust this group has in each other. We're continuing to build momentum, but we know there's still work to do as conference play continues."
