Asheville, North Carolina - The men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Asheville,North Carolina. The University of North Carolina-Asheville will provide the backdrop for the NAIA's finest track and field athletes. The Saints have sent a total of ten athletes to the championships.
Women
The Saints will showcase a trio of women in the multis and field events.
Maelie Hope enters the hammer throw competition as the top seed. Her toss of 188-10 is the current school record. Hope will also compete in the discus where she is seeded eighth.
Alexis Furgason will compete in the high jump. She has a season and personal best of 5-7 and is tied for eighth on the declaration list. She has moved up to #2 on the Saints All-Time List. The Saints will also feature
Lindsey Strutz in the women's heptathlon. Strutz is seeded second with a 4,860 point effort from earlier this season. She also will compete in the javelin.
The individual track events will feature
Madison Rempalski. Rempalski, who won the WHAC title in the 1,500, enters the championships as the ninth seed in the 1500 with a time of 4:34.52. She also will be running the 5,000 meters.
Lauren Wooer, who was crowned WHAC champ in her specialty event, enters the championships as the eleventh seed in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.90. Rempalski and Wooer will be joined by
Lexi Hurst,
Ella Koons,
Cadence Schultz, and
Amber Koole as part of the 4x800 meter relay. The Saints are seeded third with a time of 9:03.83.
Men
The men's contingent will feature
Brian Langlois in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Langlois, who is making his third championships in the steeple, sports a personal and season best of 9:18.67 and recently won the his second consecutive WHAC title in the steeplechase.
The Saints begin competition on Wednesday with the women's heptathlon at 10:15 AM. Competition will carry through Friday, May 22nd. Click
