Grand Rapids, Michigan - James Atterberry III, the son of Nina and James Atterberry II, has signed his national letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Aquinas College. Atterberry, who recently graduated from St. Joseph High School, became the tenth signee of the 2025-26 recruiting class for the Aquinas College men's cross country and track & field programs.

Atterberry simply stated, "As soon as I met the coaching staff and AQ athletes, they welcomed me as part of the family. From that point, I knew Aquinas would be the place for me."

James, whose hobbies include running, mentoring youth athletes, umping, watching movies, and anything Marvel/DC, has posted personal bests that include 11.20 (100 meters) and 22.57 (200 meters). He has qualified for the State Finals in the 200 meters, 4x100 meters and the 4x400 meters, earning All State honors in the 4x100 during his junior year. Atterberry was also a member of the National Honor Society and was named an honors graduate at St. Joseph High School.

Todd Rose, head boys track & field coach for the Bears added, "James is a fine young man and worked incredibly hard to achieve the goals he set for himself. As a captain of the St Joseph Men's track team, he lead by example as he pushed others to train during the offseason and maintain a high level of performance. He had a bit of bad luck having an injury that didn't allow him to complete his senior year but I am sure he will bounce back and provide the same effort for Aquinas College!"

James has four siblings named J'Niya, Jamar, Jayda, and Danajah and he will be majoring in Exercise Science at Aquinas College.

Aquinas associate head coach Kevin Winne commented, "James is a great addition to Aquinas both as a student and as an athlete. Unfortunately for James he wasn't able to compete his senior year, but he has a lot of potential and I believe James has the chance to contribute in the relays right away."
