#14 Saints Women Finish as Runner-Ups at WHAC Championship

Klein, Faber and Ballard Win WHAC Titles

The #14-ranked AQ women's track and field team hosted the WHAC Indoor Championships in the Alksnis Athletic Building on Saturday (Feb. 22). The meet included four nationally ranked teams besides AQ including #18 Madonna, #13 Siena Heights, #6 Cornerstone, and #1 Indiana Tech.
 
AQ came in second place out of seven competing WHAC schools with 143 points after winning the WHAC Championship a year ago. Indiana Tech won the WHAC title with 201 points while Cornerstone came in third with 136 points.
 
Payton Klein broke her own school record in the high jump with a leap of 1.74 meters (5' 8.5") to win the WHAC Championship in the event. The jump currently is #1 in the nation. For her efforts, she was named Co-Outstanding Performer of the Meet.
 
Victoria Faber won her second consecutive WHAC championship in the pole vault with a height of 3.82 meters. Her personal best is 3.87 meters at a previous meet.
 
Bailey Ballard was the WHAC Champion in the weight throw with a "B" standard mark of 16.11 meters.
 
Tyra Hunter improved her "A" standard time in the 60 meter hurdles crossing the line in 8.77 seconds in the preliminary round and 8.79 seconds in the finals. She was the runner-up in the event as she beat the previous #1 NAIA time along with Kierra Rice of Siena Heights who had a time of 8.64 seconds in the finals.
 
Jakarri Alven finished as the WHAC runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 58.49 seconds.
 
The 4x400 meter relay team of Tarshana Kimbrough, Casey Lenon, Nicole Diekema and Alven placed second with a time of 3:58.86 to clinch runner-up status at the meet.
 
Tannah Adgate and Whitney Taylor were second and third in the mile with respective times of 5:13.25 and 5:16.37. Adgate finished in second place in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:09.63 and was just third-hundredths of a second behind the WHAC Champion. Taylor was also the runner-up in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.21.
 
Crystal Goyette was the runner-up in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters. Bridget Kohane placed fourth with a distance of 1.60 meters.
 
Rebecca Beltran came in fourth place in the shot put with a mark of 11.93 meters.
 
Caroline Jones finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:24.19.
 
The 4x800 meter relay team of Hannah Adler, Eva Chmielewski, Hannah Hamilton and Jones placed fifth with a time of 10:09.39.
 
Gabby Brandonisio placed fifth in the 5000 meters crossing the line in 18:33.43.
 
Taylor Ward came in fifth place in the 600 meters with a finishing time of 1:43.17.
 
Maggie Whitney finished fifth in the 1000 meters with a time of 3:15.23.
 
At the conclusion of the meet: Kaela Frailing, Vanessa Hubert, Colette Lark, Anna Repesh, Tea Romanowski, Aly Schwartz, Adgate, Ballard, Brandonisio, Chmielewski, Faber and Klein were named to the WHAC All-Academic Team.

Eunice Eyamba received WHAC Champion of Character honors. Head Coach Mike Wojciakowski was named WHAC Champions of Character Coach of the Year.
