Aquinas to Host 2021 WHAC Track & Field Championships

Competition split into two-day meet inside Alksnis

The Aquinas men's and women's indoor track & field teams will host the 2021 WHAC Championships inside Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building this weekend. Normally a one-day competition, the meet has been split into two days, as competitors will square off on Saturday (Feb. 20) and Sunday (Feb. 21). The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. on both days.

Saturday's competition consists of more field events, while Sunday features a larger chunk of running events. Aquinas has competed in - and hosted - events each of the last three weekends, including the AQ Classic (Jan. 30), the Saints Challenge (Feb. 7), and the Aquinas Invitational (Feb. 13). 

As of Friday morning (Feb. 19), the following AQ athletes are ranked nationally in their respective events:

Men

Will Finch: 5th – 1,000 meters (2:31.18)

4x800 meter relay (Will Westveer, Will Finch, Caleb Hodgkinson, Connor McGee): 9th (8:06.34)

Distance medley relay (Connor McGee, Josh Young, Will Westveer, Will Finch): 9th (10:36.97)

Collin Pollatz: 12th – Weight throw (17.74m)

4x400 meter relay (Will Finch, Will Westveer, Caleb Hodgkinson, Connor McGee): 17th (3:26.57)

Connor McGee: 23rd – 1,000 meters (2:33.78)

Women

Victoria Faber: 1st – Pole vault (4.10m)

Bailey Ballard: 14th – Weight throw (16.01m)

4x800 meter relay (Eva Chmielewski, Grace Sweet, Caroline Jones, Maggie Whitney): 15th (10:20.98)

Distance medley relay (Eva Chmielewski, Caroline Jones, Maggie Whitney, Emily McManus): 23rd (13:28.61)

Casey Lenon: 27th – High jump (1.58m)

Laikyn Kulman: 28th – Pole vault (3.27m)

Hannah Adler: 29th – Mile (5:23.61)

At last year's WHAC Championships, both the AQ men and women finished second at the competition, again hosted at Aquinas. The Saints men won six individual or relay WHAC titles last year, while the AQ women collected three individual championships.

The 2021 NAIA Indoor National Championships are set for Mar. 3-6 in Yankton, South Dakota.
