Maelie Hope Leads Saints at WHAC Championships

Adrian, Michigan - The women's track & field team used a balanced attack to tally 115.5 points to finish fifth at the WHAC Outdoor Championships.  The Saints would collect a pair of conference titles to add to the one they won on the first day of the championships. Aquinas athletes would also take home national qualifying performances, top-five efforts, and many personal bests.

Maelie Hope would account for 25 of the Aquinas points as she scored in three different events. She would claim the conference crown in both the discus (149-00) and the shot  put (43-0.25), Her mark in the discus was a provisional qualifying mark for the national championships. Hope would also race to a fourth place finish in the 100 meters.  Lindsey Strutz would also score in a pair of events on Friday afternoon. She placed third in the triple jump (34-4.75) and fourth in the shot put (39-10.75).  Alexis Furgason (5h place - 33-1) and Presley Avery (6th place - 32-9.5) would also pick up points for the Saints in the triple jump. Furgason would also place sixth in the high jump.  Shaily Baynes placed third in the pole vault and would hit the provisional qualifying mark with a vault of 11-11.75. Leah Rohrer also picked up valuable points for AQ as she placed fourth in the discus 117-3.

Ella Koons would score the Saints highest finish in a track event as she placed third in the 1500 meters. Koons would cross the line in 4:47.34. She would later team up with Cadence Schultz, Amber Koole, and Lauren Wooer to run a 4:04.80 to place fifth in the 4x400 meter relay. Wooer (2:18.44) and Koole (2:21.83) placed sixth and eighth respectively in the 800 meters. Sophia Schrauben would pick up a fifth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles as her time of 1:05.85 ranks #5 on the Saints All-Time List.  The trio of Katrina Amrhein, Carolyn Bennett, and Annabel Bishop would go 4-5-6 in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase, while Mallory Bowker placed seventh in the 5000 meters.

The Saints will now prep for last chance meets and the NAIA Outdoor National Championships.
