Grand Rapids, Michigan -Â The men's track & field team returned to action on Friday night as the Saints played host to the 5th Annual John Flaminio Classic. Aquinas welcomed Cornerstone and Southwestern Michigan College to the Alksnis Athletic and Recreation Building. The Saints tallied 13 first place finishes on the night and received two national qualifying efforts.
Jake Van Tassell's time of 8.10 in the 60 meter hurdles was a provisional qualifier for the NAIA National Championships and currently has him ranked 6th on the NAIA performance list. Van Tassell currently owns the school record (7.97) in the 60 meter hurdles. Both
Jalen Radke and
Juan David Hernandez were double winners on Friday night. Radke won the long jump (24-6.5) and the triple jump (42-11). His effort in the long jump was a "B" qualifier and ranks him fifth on the Saints All-Time List. Jalen currently resides in 12th place on the NAIA Performance List. Hernandez claimed wins in both the Mile (4:28.54) and 800 meters (2:03.17).
Aquinas would also score first place finishes in the 60 meters and the 400 meters.Â
Peyhton Wade would win the 60 in a time of 7.04, while
Nathan Iacona would cross the line first in the 400 with a time of 51.13.Â
Jaben Bakker clocked a 1:24.60 to win the 600 meters, while
Adrian Romero used a strong last lap to win the 1,000 meters (2:40.40).Â
Parker Fenton would claim his first collegiate victory by taking the 3,000 meters in 9:10.77. The Saints would also win the 4x400 meter relay in 3:38.80.
The Saints would also score wins in the pole vault and the weight throw.
Joe Farage set a personal best (13-11.25) in the pole vault, while
Ryan McGuire captured the win in the weight throw (49-7).
The Saints will travel to Allendale next Friday to compete in the Bill Clinger Classic. The meet will be hosted by Grand Valley State University and the first event will begin at 1:00 pm.
