The Saints Summary (Oct. 3-9)

The weekly rundown of Aquinas College athletics

Every week during the school year the Aquinas sports information department recognizes the accomplishments of two student-athletes by naming them Saints of the Week. In the spotlight for the week of Oct. 3-9 are:

Anthony Deluccia, Men's Bowling
The freshman bowler from Rockford, Mich., made Aquinas history at the Midwest Collegiate Championships this past weekend by bowling the second-ever perfect game in the program's history. Deluccia joined former AQ bowler Ryan Lovett in The 300 Club after rolling 12 straight strikes. He finished the Tier 1 event in 30th place individually after knocking down 1,256 total pins. The Saints, as a team, placed 15th out of 47 teams — the best result ever for the program in a Tier 1 event.

Amelia Edens, Women's Swim & Dive
The freshman swimmer from Whiteland, Ind., set two new school records on Saturday (Oct. 7) in a dual meet at Olivet. Edens first teamed up with Kennedy Pierce, Claire Hines and Chloe Boivin to win the 200 medley relay with a record time of 1:55.58. She then won the 200 IM with a school-record time of 2:16.13, which earned her an NAIA provisional time standard. The Saints unofficially won the dual competition 156-50. Due to timing issues at the pool, some results could be adjusted and scores may change.

Stats of the Week
  • Two Aquinas student-athletes earned WHAC Players of the Week honors for their performances last week: Lydia Harper (women's volleyball) and Joshua Clemitson (men's soccer).
  • AQ senior backup goalkeeper Alison Bishop for the women's soccer team made her first-ever varsity start on Saturday (Oct. 7) and made nine save to preserve the Saints' ongoing shutout streak. Aquinas hasn't allowed a goal in eight straight games, or 746 minutes of game time.
  • According to unofficial data collected by eliteprospects.com, AQ men's hockey captain Brandon Rozema tied the program's all-time regular season points record with 153 — joining former Saints' Doug Zelenka and Corey Giffel — after picking up two points on Saturday (Oct. 7). Rozema sits seconds on the all-time goal scoring list with 68, and trails Zelenka by 10 goals.
