Getting AQuainted with Lisa Brown-Miller

We recently started a new series called "Getting AQuainted With…" as a way for our fans to get to know our Aquinas head coaches on a few professional topics and through some more light-hearted questions. Today's feature is the final installment in the series. Profiles from our other head coaches are at the bottom of the page.

Name: Lisa Brown-Miller

Hometown: Live in Holland now, but grew up in West Bloomfield

Alma Mater / Year / Major: Providence College, 1988, Business Administration

What is your favorite thing about being a head coach at Aquinas? My team, honestly. They're a great group of people - each so different and each with so much to offer!

What is your top memory from your time at AQ? Having only coached one season so far, I would have to say our team building. We did a high ropes course before the season started and an escape room in MO over fall break. The experiences stretched us out of our comfort zones and brought us together. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts!

Your favorite:

Musical artist/band? Several...U2, Jack Johnson, Tom Petty, Brandi Carlile, Pink, Simrit, R.E.M., Mumford and Sons, George Winston, Coldplay...I like to mix it up. Depends on my mood.

Movie? I'm not a one movie kind of person...but here are some favorites: Pulp Fiction, Silence of the Lambs, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Mulan (My daughter and I watched this over and over and over. Love the strong female role model!) One summer my kids and I watched some of my movies from the 80's: Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire, Footloose, ET, Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Stand by Me... They actually enjoyed most of them!

Book? When I was younger I was a HUGE Stephen King fan. Now I'm more into mindfulness...my latests reads are The Untethered Soul (Michael Singer), The Four Agreements (Don Miguel Ruiz), You Are Here (Thich Nhat Hanh) and The Wisdom of the Shamans (Don Jose Ruiz)

Meal? Anything vegetarian. Lately it has been Buddha bowls, bibimbap or homemade black bean burgers. (FYI Uncle Cheetah's Soup Shop has the BEST soup! It was my "go to" during the season.)

Restaurant? In GR...The Greenwell, Donkey Taqueria, Electric Cheetah. Near home: Mizu Sushi, Phil's, Guardian Brewing, The Biscuit

What have you been watching during quarantine? I purged on Travelers. Just started Dark. Both of these have time travel and that fascinates me. I love Ozarks and see a new season came out! (Just when you think their situation can't get any worse, it does!) I sometimes catch an episode of Restaurants on the Edge or Queer Eye.

What is something about you that would surprise most people? I am really interested in quantum energy.

If you could go on vacation anywhere and price was not a factor, where would you go? Machu Picchu in the Andes Mountains of Peru

What would you be if you weren't a coach? Wildlife conservationist or DNR Officer

What is/would be your go-to Karaoke song? Born this Way - Lady Gaga or Beautiful Day - U2

What was your first job? I caddied when I was 13 or 14 and then began working for my dad's dry cleaning store. It was SUPER HOT in the summer!!

Who is the most famous person you've met? Geez...that's a big question...I have met quite a few famous people in my journeys...Joe DiMaggio, George Steinbrenner (Yankees), Dick Fosbury (Fosbury flop), President Bill Clinton, Bonnie Blair, Tara Lipinski, 1980 Men's Olympic Hockey Team, Tommie Smith and John Carlos ('68 Olympic Track Team), Apolo Anton Ohno, Greg Louganis, Lisa Leslie, Doc Emrick, Kenny Albert, Bob Costas, Katie Couric, Dave Letterman's Mom!, Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Bryant Gumbel....and many others.

If resources and time weren't factors, what would you like to cross off your bucket list? Hike the Appalachian Trail
